About the organisation
Since its inception in 1983, Radio Skid Row has consistently served the most disadvantaged and marginalised in Sydney’s inner west, inner city and south-eastern suburbs. The majority of our programming features broadcasters from diverse cultural backgrounds and local communities, reflecting our unique cultural, social and political landscape. We engage our communities through talk shows, cultural programs, community news, music and interviews with local musicians, activists, artists, community leaders and community members.
Radio Skid Row is a fixture of the local community, hosting live events and outside broadcasts. We collaborate with multicultural groups to provide a broad range of ethnic programming, including languages with no other representation in Sydney, e.g. Nepalese, Sierra Leone, Niue and Maori programs. Our pioneering legacy in Indigenous broadcasting, through our early days with Radio Redfern and coverage of the 1988 Bicentennial protests, continues as we champion Indigenous voices with shows like ‘Blak Friday’ and ‘Koori Connection’.
